Quality legal representation is expensive. My hourly fee is $450.00. You are welcome to hire me at my hourly rate.
I do, however, also offer clients the option of paying on a per-case basis. The way in which I structure my retainers is meant to provide certainty to the client. My retainer for a case goes into a client trust account. I bill against that retainer, at my hourly rate, as I earn the money. If at the end of your case there is still money in the client trust account that has not been expended, that money is returned to you. Conversely, if your case expends the entire retainer amount I do not request additional monies. I feel as though, as the attorney, that I am in a better position than a client to accurately quote what a case is “worth.” As such, it should be me that assumes the risk of getting the fee wrong.
All that being said, I believe strongly that the government should not be able to roll-over people simply because they cannot afford a competent attorney. Reduced fees based on individual needs are available.
